Awesome SS15 Cafes You Can't Miss

1. Shimokita Space, Hidden Thrift Store and Cafe In SS15

vintage corner at Shimokita Space ss15 cafe

Nestled within the bustling streets of SS15 cafes is a hidden gem, quietly establishing itself as a go-to destination for thrift-shoppers and café enthusiasts.

Unassuming from the outside, this spot adjacent to a 7-11 is far from a place you stumble upon during a casual stroll in the area.

As you ascend the unsuspecting flight of stairs, the groovy tunes of city pop gradually intensify, immersing you in the enchanting realm of Shimokita Space. Inspired by the aesthetics of 1980s and 1990s Japan, this place is adorned with posters and trinkets that transport you back in time.

The brainchild behind Shimokita is Jay, an ardent admirer of Japanese culture. When travel restrictions hindered his ability to visit the country, he decided to bring a slice of Japan to his doorstep instead.

In Malaysia, Japanese culture is immensely popular, but what we mostly see here are samurai themes and traditional Japanese concepts. I believe the younger generation craves something different. They have a fondness for Harajuku fashion, pop culture, and city pop, says Jay.

“We took charge of almost every aspect of this space, from painting to flooring, and approximately 90% of the furniture is secondhand.” After perusing their thoughtfully curated racks, indulge in their delectable homemade dishes while basking in the nostalgic melodies of Miki Matsubara.

Their Triple Beef Smashburger and Spicy Chicken Burger are both reasonably priced at RM12 each.

Don’t forget to sample their special Butterbeer (yes, just like the one in Harry Potter) available for RM10.

With its late opening hours, Shimokita is the perfect spot for a nocturnal hangout or a post-work thrift-shopping adventure.

5. Atap by Pagi Coffee Co.

This is on of the SS15 cafes that offers a variety of beans and three serving choices: black for espresso, white for latte, cappuccino, flat white, and filter for manual brew. I tried Atap 2.0 with Filter and it tasted fantastic, very aromatic and delightful. They also have non-coffee options and light bites.

The cafe has a relaxing ambience, good music at a comfortable volume. It’s not crowded with large groups taking pictures.

The staff is super friendly, attentive, and helpful. The barista explains the coffee menus and welcomes chit-chats. They value customer feedback. It’s an intimate and affordable coffee bar that rivals some of Melbourne’s best.

Chris, the owner and barista, ensures each order is made with care. I’ve been here four times in the past week and witnessed his dedication.

This coffee bar creates a sense of warmth and fosters conversations. It truly achieves what every coffee bar should strive for. I dare say, it’s the BEST coffee bar in SS15.

espoir cafe ss15

This pet-friendly SS15 cafes offers a delightful dining experience surrounded by many adorable dogs. The staff efficiently handles the presence of the furry companions, creating a comfortable environment. The prices are affordable, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with our puppy. While the food was not extraordinary, it was still enjoyable. This cafe truly prioritizes your pet’s well-being, making it one of the best pet-friendly cafes in town. Highly recommended!

The cozy atmosphere and delicious food provided a homely taste that pleased our palates. We savored dishes like ginger pork and spicy butter chicken rice, which left a satisfying impression. Moreover, the highlight was the pet-friendly aspect of the cafe, as they offered a menu specifically tailored for our furry friends. Our pup had a fantastic time exploring and relishing her meal. However, the iced chocolate was slightly bitter, and we would have preferred a sweeter flavor. On the bright side, their pandan cake was exceptional. Additionally, the presence of cute little poodles added an extra charm to the cafe.

classic fish and chips Espoir Cafe SS15

One thing that truly impressed us was the well-thought-out food and drinks menu, considering the cafe is run by only two individuals. We ordered the salted egg chicken chop and the purple potato latte. To this day, we still reminisce about the delicious chicken chop, but unfortunately, the distance from our house prevents us from revisiting. Nevertheless, we are certain to return in the future. We wish the shop success and hope it continues to thrive as its business volume grows. All the best!

kombucha drink at espoir cafe

Having visited almost all the pet-friendly cafes in the Klang Valley, we can confidently say that this place stands out as one of the few rare gems that not only allows pets but also serves excellent food. Unlike most other cafes that charge a premium for mediocre food, this establishment served us delightful dishes.

We ordered the salted egg yolk chicken chop, beef burger, breaded prawns, and Earl Grey cheesecake. Each item was delicious and promptly served. The tasteful decor and cleanliness of the this SS15 cafes added to our positive experience. We will definitely return and highly recommend it to fellow pet owners in search of a pleasant cafe to bring their furry companions to.

chicken almond salad at Benjy Cafe

Having been a patron for years, I must admit that I’m not usually a fan of salads. However, the Cajun Chicken Salad at Benjy Cafe is absolutely incredible. Not only is the flavor exceptional, but the serving size is also generous.

The mushroom soup is consistently creamy, thick, and fresh. One of my personal favorites is the Chicken & Shrimp dish. The accompanying BBQ sauce is simply fantastic. Despite being a small cafe, the food served here is hearty and satisfying. During my visit, the cafe was fully booked, but they kindly arranged a table for me. I ordered the lamb shank and tomato soup.

Surprisingly, the food arrived promptly despite the busy atmosphere. The lamb was beautifully tender, accompanied by a side of flavorful mashed potatoes. I highly recommend ordering extra garlic bread to savor with the delicious gravy. The tomato soup was also rich in flavor. I am definitely planning to return to this SS15 cafes to explore their other enticing menu options. The prices are affordable, and the staff is friendly, making it an all-around enjoyable dining experience.

8. Souka

different foods of Souka Bakeshop cafe in ss15

Souka, one of the charming SS15 cafes and bakery, was recommended to me by relatives for lunch. Initially, it appeared to be a typical bakery shop where you could dine in, but I would describe it as a trendy hipster bakery cafe.

The ambience of Souka is pleasant, with well-lit interiors and soothing jazz music playing in the background, creating a relaxing atmosphere. However, it can get a bit noisy at times due to the chatter of other guests.

The food at Souka is simply delicious. Each item on the menu is crafted with care and love for the customer. Whether you’re craving beverages, coffee, tea, Western food, pastries, or cakes, you can choose whatever your heart desires and place your order.

fish and chips at souka

One of the standout features of Souka is its late opening hours and impressive variety of cakes. Kudos to them for that. However, I wasn’t particularly impressed with the coffee, as it didn’t meet my expectations. The cake I tried was also overly sweet, and considering I already have a sweet tooth, it was a bit overwhelming. In fact, my partner and I couldn’t finish the hefty slice of cake we ordered. The place was quite busy, so even late at night, finding seats might be a challenge, especially during the fasting month, which could have contributed to the crowd.

Souka has become one of my favorite SS15 cafes for coffee. It’s a small bakery and cafe located in SS15, and I usually visit when I can find parking in the area. If you’re planning to go, be prepared to walk a bit after parking.

beauty food and view at souka

In the past, Souka used to offer a wider variety of pastries, and the staff used to be friendlier. However, I revisited yesterday after a while and noticed that many of the pastries are new. I was particularly delighted to see the return of the cranberry cream cheese item, which happens to be my kids’ favorite.

The prices at Souka are affordable, and despite its being one of the small-sized SS15 cafes, the place is clean and cozy.

9. The Orange Couch Cafe

ambiance of The Orange Couch Cafe ss15

Despite the limited space, I thoroughly enjoy the coffee at this place, especially their signature Orange Couch blend. The combination of strawberry and coffee may seem unusual, but it surprisingly works well together. Don’t miss out on trying their Tau Fu Fa Waffle—it may sound like an odd combination, but trust me, it’s amazingly delicious.

The ambience of the cafe is low-key and intimate, with tastefully minimal decor. Initially, the idea of an orange-flavored coffee might sound strange, but as you take sips, it gradually grows on you. The sandwiches have a homemade flavor that evokes thoughts of loved ones. The waffles are also outstanding, with a crispy exterior and fluffy interior. If you prefer something less sweet, give the lavender earl gray flavor a try. Additionally, the service is attentive and personable. Kudos to the co-owners, who are also eye-catching.

waffle ice cream and fruits at The Orange Couch Cafe

In my opinion, these are the best waffles in Subang, hands down. They strike the perfect balance of being crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Even with just the original butter and maple syrup, they taste fantastic. The coffee served here complements the waffles perfectly. However, do keep in mind that parking can be a challenge in this area.

10. Beans & Cream

interior design of Beans & Cream cafe

This is one of the SS15 cafes that offers a very peaceful environment accompanied by the subtle aroma of light coffee. It’s a great spot to hang out and enjoy some tranquility.

The food here is delicious, and I must highlight the exceptional customer service. Mr. Sin at the front counter and the chef went above and beyond to accommodate my order preferences, even though I requested something not listed on their menu. They customized my order without any additional charges. The food deserves a 5-star rating, and so does the service.

I was pleased to find comfortable seating for my afternoon tea, complete with electric plug points. It was well worth the 25 ringgit for tea and cake. The chef, named Dexter, was incredibly nice and had three years of experience in the Maldives, though he was born in Sabah and learned from a chef in Holland. Dexter made our visit even more worthwhile by adding an extra scoop of ice cream to entice us to come back when the cheesecake was unavailable. He also allowed us to change to waffles to make our stay more enjoyable.

The overall ambiance of the cafe, including the music and comfort, was a major plus which is rare among other SS15 cafes. The toilet facilities were clean, and the cafe itself was tidy and pleasant. Although there were fewer guests during the afternoon, the overall experience was highly satisfactory.

11. Bite Cafe

Bite Cafe ss15

This hidden gem in SS15 is just like the toasts you find in Seoul. The fluffy toast pairs perfectly with the ham and scrambled eggs, creating a delicious combination. The shop’s interior is cozy and comfortable, adding to the overall experience. I will definitely visit again.

sliced toast breakfast at Bite Cafe

The food here is good, made with fresh ingredients. The portions are just right for breakfast, a light lunch, or tea time. The matcha latte is well-sized and has a good taste. The ambience of the cafe is calming, with soothing music playing in the background. They also offer meat-free options like avocado toast. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

egg salad from Bite Cafe ss15

I dropped by this relatively new toast-oriented eatery for a late breakfast/brunch on a Sunday, and it turned out to be better than expected. The smoked chicken sandwich set with hot latte was even more satisfying than what was shown on the wall menu. I give it full marks. The kids also enjoyed their big breakfast and chicken ham sets.

ambiance in Bite Cafe

The decor has a neo-modernist style with clean lines and minimalistic decor, creating a relaxed atmosphere. It’s best to come early, sit back, and enjoy the soothing background music. I ordered the Wholemeal bread, Smoked Beef and a Classic toast, accompanied by a cup of hot Americano. It was the perfect way to kick-start my Saturday. The food is decent, the prices are reasonable, and the staff are friendly. The cafe is clean as well. Keep up the good work!

12. Little Bally Cafe

ambiance of Little Bally Cafe

It’s one of the perfect SS15 cafes to hang out with friends, play cards, and have a drink! The cocktails are very affordable, especially with their “buy 3 get 3 free” offer before 9pm. It’s the best value in the neighborhood. I highly recommend trying their strongest cocktail, haha.

meat platter at Little Bally Cafe ss15

While searching for Pork Chop, we stumbled upon this cafe. The atmosphere was welcoming, and there was a refreshing breeze that night with no mosquitoes. The food portions were generous, so I would suggest coming in a group of 4 to 6 people to fully enjoy their cocktails. It’s hard to resist the temptation of their delicious drinks. Make sure to arrive early for their happy hour specials and to secure a parking spot. The prices are reasonable, and overall, it was a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

We were delighted to discover this place while exploring SS15. They offer a decent selection of food and beverages, including happy hour deals for both cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are generous. They provide both indoor and outdoor seating options. The only challenge is finding parking, but it’s worth it. Additionally, they operate until late at night, if I remember correctly.

whole fried chicken Little Bally Cafe

This outdoor venue is perfect for enjoying meals and alcohol. The happy hour prices for drinks are fantastic considering the portion sizes. There’s a variety of food to choose from, including dishes from the adjacent Chinese cafe. I tried the aglio olio pork bacon and the chicken chop, and both were delicious. Personally, I prefer the aglio olio pork bacon.

13. Cafe Miss Fafa

interior of Cafe Miss Fafa

The atmosphere of Cafe Miss Fafa is nice, and the decoration is interesting. The variety of food options is abundant as like any SS15 cafes, making it difficult to choose what to eat. However, the effort put into offering a set of biscuits with curry ball, soup, and a dessert drink all in one go is commendable, even though they may not complement each other perfectly. I appreciate the creativity.

vintage wall art in Cafe Miss Fafa

The dining experience is enhanced by the unique way the meals are served, particularly the metal bowls that add an amazing touch. Surprisingly, even the toilet is hidden. Initially, I thought the red fridge door was just a decoration, but to my surprise, when I lifted the handle, it revealed a concealed toilet. The staff members are helpful, and overall, it’s an awesome place to dine in.

clams from Cafe Miss Fafa ss15

Upon opening the menu, the first thing that catches your attention is the affordable prices. They are significantly cheaper compared to other places offering the same menu. Furthermore, when the food arrives, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the generous portion sizes. It’s the kind of experience that makes you think, “I’ll definitely come back here again.” The drinks are also reasonably priced at RM3.50, and they maintain the quality without diluting them. It’s a great spot to hang out with friends after a meal. The taste of the food is excellent as well, with no corners cut despite the lower prices. I will definitely return to try their other dishes and drinks.

14. Meeples - European Boardgame Cafe

monkey game from Meeples - European Boardgame Cafe

The service at Meeples for our board game experience was absolutely superb! As newbies, we didn’t expect such an incredible level of service. The team put in tremendous time, energy, and passion to ensure we had a fantastic time there. Every penny we spent was so worth it. Thank you so much to the entire team for making our visit memorable. We will definitely be returning in the future.

simple snack at Meeples ss15 cafe

Throughout the years, I have visited Meeples multiple times, and it truly stands out as one of the best board game stores. They consistently stock new and in-demand titles, and the products I purchased were always in pristine condition. The customer service and after-sales support they provide are excellent. When I was new to board gaming, I decided to visit Meeples without knowing what to expect. To my delight, the staff members were courteous and knowledgeable. They guided me through the games and created a welcoming experience for newcomers like myself. Kudos to the team and management for a job well done!

The staff members at Meeples are always friendly and patient. You can clearly feel their passion for board games when you’re there. The environment is clean, and it’s always a fun time visiting the store. The only minor issue is that there are occasionally some mosquitoes present. Interestingly, they usually don’t bite, but it’s advisable to bring mosquito repellent just in case, especially if you’re someone who tends to attract mosquitoes.

15. The Foxhole Bakery Cafe

interior of The Foxhole Bakery Cafe

One of the best SS15 cafes I’ve visited for brunch, with tasteful decor, delicious food, and beautiful presentation. The service staff are friendly and attentive, although the only downside is that the air conditioning is too cold. Parking is easily available, and the cafe opens early, making it convenient for a visit. I will definitely recommend it to my family and friends.

The fresh and flavorful food at this cafe is truly a delight. The cozy ambiance and atmosphere create a pleasant dining experience, without being too noisy. The staff members provide fast and excellent service. I wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. They are friendly, and the food is yummy. The mushroom soup is particularly good, and those who enjoy spicy dishes will appreciate the Aglio Olio. I also tried the sea bass with mashed potato, which may appear small in the picture but left me feeling satisfied. The environment is also nice.

waffle salad at The Foxhole Bakery Cafe

For my meal, I decided to try the seasonal special, the Moroccan Fish Stew. I expected it to be more soupy, given the name “stew,” so I ordered an extra side of garlic bread. However, the dish turned out to be somewhat dry, with the fish placed on a bed of couscous and topped with a tomato-based gravy. I asked the waiter about it, and he kindly brought me some extra gravy. In terms of taste, it wasn’t particularly unique. Perhaps I should have chosen something from their regular menu.

The garlic bread stood out with its light and fluffy texture, which is one of the best among other SS15 cafes. And, of course, no meal is complete without a cup of coffee. I opted for a latte, which was nice and enjoyable when consumed warm.

16. The Great Cafe

the great cafe ambiance

This is one of the hidden SS15 cafes that offers a delightful dining experience. For lunch, I tried their latte and special chicken patty curry noodles. The latte had a balanced flavor that I enjoyed. The curry noodle, which is their signature dish, impressed me with its handmade noodles, flavorful chicken patty, and rich curry soup. The combination of sourness and spiciness was just right.

In addition to their popular curry ramen, another hidden gem on the menu is the sour veggie soup ramen. This light broth with tangy preserved sour veggies and comforting chicken patty is a treat for the taste buds. It’s a comforting bowl of noodles that I would rate 8.5/10.

bowl of noodle at the great cafe ss15

Although the golden fried rice was a bit plain for its price, it still had a great taste, earning a score of 7.5/10. As for the cakes, I’ve only tried the pandan gula Melaka cake so far. It was slightly dense but not bad, with a rating of 7/10.

The ambiance of the cafe is lovely, with a quiet atmosphere and soothing background music. It’s a perfect place to relax, hang out, or even have a meeting. Finding parking is relatively easy since it’s not located in the heart of SS15. The owners are friendly and hospitable, contributing to the overall pleasant dining experience. The freshly made ramen is a highlight, and the Pandan Gula Melaka cake is a must-try.

laksa noodle at the great cafe

I truly adore this cozy little place that serves incredibly delicious food like no other SS15 cafes. The boss was accommodating and made the requested changes to the dish I ordered. The sausage was absolutely delightful, and the fluffy pancake served with gula Melaka added a nice twist. The black forest cake, with its abundant cherries, was also a favorite of mine.

17. Lisette's Café & Bakery

interior seating of Lisette's Café & Bakery

Arriving early for breakfast, I was pleased to discover that this hidden gem was tucked away on the ground floor of a mall, providing a serene atmosphere.

This stands out among other SS15 cafes as it boasts a cool decor and an extensive menu that offers a wide variety of dishes. The service was excellent, with attentive waiters who quickly attended to our needs. Our orders arrived promptly and without any need for reminders.

outdoor seating at Lisette's Café & Bakery ss15

It’s an excellent restaurant for enjoying a meal with your family. The ambiance is comfortable and not overly noisy, making it perfect for catching up with family and friends. We ordered mushroom soup, a selection of cakes, and tea and coffee sets. The mushroom soup was thick and paired well with the bread.

The service was comparable with other top SS15 cafes, and I will definitely return to try other items on the menu. During my visit for lunch/brunch with my family, we enjoyed the pleasant ambiance and tasteful decor. We ordered Lisette’s Omelette, Hummus, Baked Eggs, and a Latte. The food was delicious, and the prices were reasonable.

waffle slices at lisette's cafe and bakery

I look forward to revisiting to explore more of their main dishes. It’s also a fantastic place to hang out with friends. Keep in mind that it’s a popular brunch spot, so expect a wait during lunchtime on weekends. The staff members are friendly and efficient, although they can be quite busy and challenging to get hold of, particularly when ordering from the pastry counter. Ordering from the table is convenient using a QR code and a browser link.

The breakfast options have an Aussie influence with an East Asian twist. They offer a much larger lunch menu starting from late morning. The dishes are skillfully prepared with unique twists that make them stand out. We found all the cakes and pastries we tried to be of high quality, although they can be somewhat pricey. For example, a plain croissant or scone costs RM7, and a small chicken pie is RM20, which may seem a bit overpriced. The cakes are around RM18 per slice.
