10+ Fanciful OUG Cafe For Breakfast & Brunch

Exploring Taman OUG, I found myself surrounded by the vibrant neighborhoods of Sri Petaling and Kuchai. Nestled among residential areas and old shophouses, Taman OUG turned out to be a charming enclave. What struck me was the diverse culinary landscape it offered – not only did the area boast an array of local delicacies, but it also played host to several new and highly popular restaurants that had set up shop. The mix of traditional and trendy establishments created a unique atmosphere, making Taman OUG cafe a delightful destination for both local flavors and contemporary dining experiences.

Calming OUG Cafe To Discover

1. Mikaa Cafe

After indulging in breakfast nearby, my craving for a refreshing cold drink led me to Mikaa Cafe on a scorching day. Upon arrival, it appeared that we were their first customers, rendering the place empty and slightly warm.

Opting for their signature yam mochi cake, it turned out to be a delightful choice. Contrary to its appearance, the cake wasn’t overly sweet, and its presentation was adorned with flower petals upon serving. The texture was soft and moist, featuring a delectable yam filling. Despite my initial doubts, it didn’t quite resemble traditional mochi.

The OUG cafe boasted an intriguing selection of drinks, including Japanese alcohol. We settled for hojitcha latte, matcha latte, and the intriguingly named sun kissed – a soda drink with orange flavor. Among them, my personal favorite was the Hojitcha latte, impressing with its rich hojitcha flavor.

Mikaa Cafe offers a unique experience by allowing patrons to bake or BBQ their own mochi, making it an ideal spot for young kids to try something new. The taste of the mochi was pleasing, although the prices leaned towards the higher side. Fortunately, the OUG cafe wasn’t too crowded during my visit, making it a worthwhile destination for those who appreciate the allure of hot mochi. It’s definitely a place worth exploring for a distinct and enjoyable culinary adventure.

As always, the hospitality at Kenny Hills Coffee was top-notch. A special shoutout goes to the young and well-spoken gentleman manning the cashier, adding a personal touch to the visit. Moving on to the culinary delights, both pastries and coffee lived up to the high standards set by other outlets. The taste was great, and the quality remained consistent.

The coffee, in particular, stood out, especially the affogato and espresso. The OUG cafe ambiance exuded a cozy, cabin-like feel, transporting me to a European coffee shop with stellar music. It left such a positive impression that I’m already planning to come back. The Peach Strudel and the Shaken Ice Honey Oat Latte were standouts, making it a must-visit for any coffee lover. It’s a perfect spot to unwind and engage in conversations.

3. Morrow Cafe

At Morrow Cafe, I opted for the Capers Cream Grilled Chicken as my main. The portion size was satisfying, and what I appreciated most was the generous amount of veggies, providing a delightful crunch. The inclusion of capers added a lovely sharp and savory taste to the dish.

A standout for me was their hot chocolate, served in a rustic cup set and topped with marshmallows. It added a comforting touch to my dining experience. The side of fries turned out to be quite substantial, taking me some time to finish. To accompany the rest of my evening, I decided to go for a refillable chamomile tea.

The OUG cafe offered a lovely environment, creating the perfect setting to either relax and enjoy a meal or be productive with a warm drink. On a writing stint, I found the atmosphere to be incredibly welcoming.

Additionally, the signature pulled pork burger here is a must-try, complemented by nice coffee. The overall ambiance is cozy, and the staff proves to be attentive, friendly, and helpful.

When it comes to parking, street parking is available, but it can be quite challenging to find a spot on weekdays, especially during office hours.

This recently discovered a new neighborhood gem in OUG – a cafe serving authentic Yunnan coffee beans for coffee enthusiasts. The staff’s friendliness and good service added to the positive experience. An interesting feature is that their cakes come with a bonus of booze, a delightful surprise for dessert lovers.

This hidden spot that exclusively uses dark roasted beans for their coffee. As someone who prefers dark roasted coffee over the sour variant, I appreciated the distinct flavor profile. Trying their tiramisu cake without Kahlua, I found it enjoyable, though I still lean towards the version with Kahlua. The barista and staff extended a warm and welcoming service, rounding off my visit on a positive note.

4. 6Yi Cafe

6Yi Cafe turned out to be a pleasant, quiet spot for some coffee and cake post-lunch. The retro-themed design struck a nostalgic chord, featuring numerous familiar household items reminiscent of a typical Chinese Malaysian household from the 80s and 90s.

I particularly enjoyed the Lime coffee, a delightful choice for a lazy Sunday afternoon. The rum raisin cake paired perfectly with it. Adding to the charm were the two cats leisurely lounging around, seemingly oblivious to the customers coming and going. What makes this place special is its rarity as a simple, cozy OUG cafe that stays open until 12 am, making it a viable option for a late dinner or supper.

A notable feature was the availability of grainless fried rice (caulirice), offering a healthier option with an abundance of vegetables. It’s a great place to enjoy a homemade luncheon meat dish while getting your veggie fix.

One heartwarming aspect of 6Yi Cafe is the kind-hearted owner who has adopted numerous street animals. For cat lovers, this OUG cafe provides an opportunity for adoption, showcasing adorable feline friends.

For dinner, we decided to check out Belly & The Chef Dining at OUG, and the decor of the place immediately caught my attention. Fortunately, the Monday evening crowd was light, providing a relaxed atmosphere. The servers were attentive to our table, taking the time to ask for feedback on the food.

Opting for the truffle fettuccini and line-caught sea bass, both dishes lived up to our expectations. However, I couldn’t help but feel that the portion of the sea bass was a bit too small for its price, despite its delicious taste and appealing presentation.

Delving into their other offerings, the loh mai gai stood out with its crispy outer skin and fragrant glutinous rice. The salmon and mashed potatoes also earned a nod of approval from our group.

Personally, I tried the sizzling garlic prawn, which, although a bit oily, impressed me with its overall delicious flavor. Exploring different risotto options, I can confidently say that this place serves the best risotto I’ve ever had in Kuala Lumpur. The perfectly cooked rice topped with juicy scallops was a delightful combination.

At Jing Si Books & Cafe in OUG, I immersed myself in the scholarly ambiance, surrounded by the soothing blend of books and tea. The atmosphere exuded calmness and relaxation, creating a unique space. Unlike traditional OUG cafe, they don’t offer coffee and a wide array of food but focus on tea and light snacks. During my visit, I tried the multi-grain paste, which pleasantly surprised me with its balanced sweetness and thickness – a healthier alternative to the typical tongshui.

Upon entering, I had to remove my shoes and store them in a provided bag, a gesture that added to the distinct experience. The seating is limited, creating an intimate setting. In addition to the tea and snacks, they also have a selection of items for sale, including handmade soap, cutlery, and paste powder.

The environment at Jing Si Books & Cafe struck a perfect balance – cool enough to be comfortable without the need for a jacket. The owner, fluent in both Mandarin and English, showcased kindness and attentiveness throughout my time there.

The ambiance was not entirely silent, featuring a cafe-like background hum that proved conducive for students studying or adults seeking a relaxed environment. It provided a quiet and meditative space for those seeking some alone time. While the tea set came at an affordable price, I realized that it might not be the ideal spot for extended chit-chat sessions with friends. Overall, Jing Si Books & Cafe offers a unique and tranquil experience for those looking to unwind with tea and literature.

10. YunShu Coffee

front view of YunShu Coffee

YunShu Coffee has become my go-to place for coffee, although I must admit that I’m not a coffee connoisseur and haven’t attended any coffee appreciation classes. Before 2020, I strictly favored hot chocolate, so my opinion should be taken with a pinch of salt.

outdoor seat of YunShu Coffee

In a neighborhood filled with cafes, many of which are 1 to 2 years old, YunShu stands out. While many cafes offer nice experiences, there’s something about the coffee here that gives it a special kick. Despite having limited food choices, what they do offer is of high quality, including the occasional cakes.

A significant plus is their pet-friendly policy, catering to those who wish to bring their furry companions.

I stumbled upon OUG Kopitiam for an early lunch in Taman Yarl, and it turned out to be a nice and cozy OUG cafe with an airy concept. I appreciated the well-spaced seats that added to the comfortable atmosphere. The service was friendly and quick, although I found the prices a bit on the higher side. Luckily, there was street parking available.

We decided to share a roti bakar, but it was just okay. Interestingly, we had to apply the kaya and butter ourselves. Moving on to the mains, we opted for their nasi lemak—one with ayam goreng berempah and the other with chicken curry. Both dishes exceeded our expectations. The sambal was spicy and addictive, and the rice had a light santan flavor.

The chicken in both dishes was tender and packed with flavor, making it a choice with no regrets. OUG Kopitiam stands out as an ideal breakfast spot since it opens quite early, offering a variety of menu dishes. The coffee was delightful, and the staff provided helpful and friendly service.

12. KLÉSIS Café Grocer

The meaning behind the name, ‘Klesis,’ which translates to ‘a call’ or ‘invitation,’ resonated with me. The owner aspires for visitors to find peace, joy, and healing within the OUG cafe, and I genuinely felt that experience. Hearing the owner’s story was both refreshing and inspiring. Despite facing challenges, he persevered, finding peace and healing, staying true to the calling. It left me with new insights as I concluded 2023 and stepped into 2024. If you enjoy some inspiration, I recommend grabbing the humble owner for a chat.

The atmosphere of the cafe was exactly what we sought—peaceful and quiet. Opting for a cozy spot away from the city’s buzz, we found this OUG cafe just a 20-minute Grab or taxi ride from KL center, making it extremely accessible from our hotel.

Trying the oat milk latte, I was pleasantly surprised. As a daily consumer of oat milk lattes, this one had that special ‘feel’ to it. The standout was the cheese cake—absolutely GREAT. Moist inside with a perfectly done top layer burnt skin. KLÉSIS Café Grocer is a charming place with excellent food, drinks, and desserts. The wonderful boss truly deserves commendation, and I highly recommend a visit to this delightful spot.

At Midsummer Night Cafe, simplicity defines both the ambiance and the delightful meals they offer. The star of the show here is undoubtedly the pork lard, a specialty that, in my opinion, pairs exceptionally well with their rice dishes.

The OUG cafe starts serving at 1 pm, focusing mainly on straightforward fare such as Poke Bowls and a selection of noodles.
